DO FEMALE ENTREPRENEURS REALLY NEED A CONTENT MARKETING STRATEGY?

Do you have a content strategy? Or are you like thousands of other biz babes who just wing it?

I used to be one of those who would just wing it – but I got very little traction so I bite the bullet and gave the old “content strategy” thing a try … and low and behold … Things started to pick up.

The thing is, most biz babes, like yourself, know that content marketing is the biggest “thing” we do for our business. We know that creating content is the main job we have.

Whether it be creating free content for our social media or paid content for our high-end mastermind … it’s all content and it makes up the most of what we do here online.

Content creation is a big deal … it’s vital to your business success … without content, you wouldn’t have an online business at all.

Yet … so many biz babes have literally no strategy or plan when it comes to their content … they wing it, wing it, wing it.

And then wonder why nothing much is happening.

Well, that’s because winging it doesn’t bloody work. You have to have a clear strategy! FACT!

Your content should do the following things:

  • Grow your audience/following
  • Show your expertise
  • Sell/Promote/Market your business and offers
  • Help your audience
  • Instil the know/like/trust factor
  • Be easy to monitor
  • MAKE YOU MONEY!

If your content is not doing all of those things … you need a strategy!

If you want to achieve better results with your content consider creating your own content strategy.

So what the heck is content strategy anyway?

A content strategy is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a plan to create, organise, market and maximise your content.

You can plan a week in advance, a month, a quarter or even a year in advance. When you have a content strategy in place the process of creating content for your blog, website, social media accounts, programs, offers etc becomes much easier.

It’s also easier to outsource it or find those awesome done for you bundles when you know exactly what you need.

Here are 7 things to help you create your own perfect content strategy.

1. WHERE WILL YOU BE PUBLISHING YOUR CONTENT?

Now, this may seem like an obvious question – on your blog, website, social media accounts of course!

But, you may what to guest blog, get featured in an online publication, share your content on someone else podcast, be a guest on someone Facebook live show etc.

Remember … your own platforms are not the only place you can share your content on.

Think about where you want to publish your content, make a list of all those places … Then move onto the next question.

2. HAVE YOU CHOSEN A FORMAT FOR YOUR CONTENT?

Blog posts? Live Videos? Podcasts? Free Downloads?

That’s the first question and then you want to take a look at the formats or styles that your readers respond to. For example, maybe you find your audience loves reading your blog posts or maybe they prefer your reading your emails. When you know what they like you can include it in your plan.

Maybe your audience just can’t get enough of your Facebook live videos or the respond better over on IGTV … take note of what gains their interest the most and do more of that.

It’s always a good idea to mix it up and use a number of different formats for your content and you have a lot to choose from:

  • Video
  • Live Stream
  • Audio
  • Blogs
  • Visual Images
  • Emails
  • Free downloads
    etc

Most of your content should be in the format YOU really enjoy working with and what your audience responds best too.

3. YOUR CONTENT NEEDS A GOAL OR PURPOSE!

How many times have you sat at your computer and blasted out some content and then posted it straight away? Without giving it much thought or reason?

I’m going to guess it’s a lot … as most biz babes create content this way.

But all of your content must have a goal or purpose. A reason why it’s being created and knowing this reason/goal/purpose will allow you to ensure all of your content is created in the right way, posted in the right place and have all the right CTA’s.

For example – do you want to drive traffic to your freebie opt-in pages? Do you want people to buy your course? Or do you just want your audience to engage with your posts?

You need to know what the purpose of every bit of content you create is – this really will help you get the best results from content marketing as you’ll know what you need to write, what to focus on, where and when to publish and how you can monitor its performance.

4. GET IT CREATED NOW!

So now that you know what you are going to create and have a clear purpose or goal – it’s time to actually get that content created!

Some people like to create their content in a batch, once a week. Others like to create a little bit each day … it really doesn’t matter how to get your content created, just as long as you do.

Create a content creation schedule and stick to it.

I prefer to create content every day. I love writing so blogging, social media posts and email are my jam. I know what I’m going to write about, I know why I’m wiring it and I make sure I set aside a couple of hours each day to get it done.

5. CHOSE WHEN YOU’LL GET YOUR CONTENT OUT THERE.

When will you publish your content? For example, will you write the content for the week on Monday and publish it on Tuesday? Blogs allow you to upload posts and schedule them for publication.

Will post a new blog every single day or just once a week?
When will you post on social media?

You’ll need to think about certain things depending on what content you are creating. For instance, if you are recording videos for YouTube, you may shoot the video on a Monday, edit it on a Tuesday and then post it on a Wednesday.

Keeping to a plan of action will really help you stay on track with your content marketing strategy. It will reduce your overwhelm and stress and allow you to keep on pumping out kicks content week after week.

6. ARE YOU GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR CONTENT?

If you are creating content and only using it once … you are totally missing out!

You need to learn how to repurpose that one piece of content and weave it into your strategy.

Simple blog posts can be tweaked and extended on to create a YouTube Video.

Your Facebook lives can be transcribed and posted on your blog.

Those weekly emails you send out can be taken apart and made into interesting posts for your Instagram stories.

The possibilities are endless – just remember, one piece of content can be reused, repurposed and recycled over and over again into as many different pieces of content you can think of.

7. KNOW MUST KNOW YOUR NUMBERS!

One of the most important things you must do with your content marketing strategy is to monitor its performance.

You should be checking things like, how many views, how many moments, how many shares, how many sales, how many sign-ups each piece gets.

What numbers you chose to monitor will depend on what your goal or purpose was for that piece of content.

For instance, if you created a blog post and your goal was to get people to join your list, you need to be monitoring how many people joined your list form that blog post.

Once you know your numbers, you’ll have a much better picture and understanding of what kind of content your audience really loves and respond best too – then … you just do more of that!

When you can keep creating content that your audience loves and responds well to – you will soon be getting the most amazing results from your content marketing.

And, let’s face it … that’s the whole point of it right? You’re not just creating content for the hell of it. You’re creating content to grow your business, increase your visibility, show your expertise and make money!

Content marketing is one of the best ways you can grow your online business but just winging it and pumping out content with no real purpose or goals is a waste for your time.

Get your content strategy in place, stick to it and then watch how much your business blows up 🙂
